FARMING THE WAY NATURE INTENDED
It’s so simple: cows, sheep, pigs, and chickens evolved in relationship with the land: as they forage for their food, they aerate, fertilize, and build the soil, leaving it healthy and ready to regenerate. For untold thousands of years, farmers worked within this natural system….but then farming became an industry, with animals restricted to close confined spaces and fed diets unsuited to their digestive systems, with routine doses of antibiotics to keep them alive and hormones to make them grow rapidly.
Growing up on grass-based farms , we knew right from the start that we didn’t want to use the factory-farm model. Instead, we’ve studied the new-old approach called “holistic management”– taking the best of the old ways and combining them with new environmental science and animal-husbandry techniques to mimic the way animals evolved to live in nature.
Thanks to this holistic approach, our animals very rarely require the use of pharmaceuticals. In the unlikely event that we have a sick animal that doesn’t respond to natural remedies, of course, we treat the animal and remove it from the retail inventory.
The result? Our cows, sheep, pigs, and chickens enjoy healthy, low-stress lives with plenty of sunlight, fresh air, exercise, and fresh, high-quality food…their meat is packed with flavor and nutrients….and their foraging helps to restore the land, leaving it healthier with each new cycle.
